Inauguration of the Exhibition
¨The Splendor of Arabic Calligraphy
and Islamic Heritage¨

Wednesday 17th of August 2005 brought the opening of a very special exhibition to the the city of Seville and the thousands of tourists and visitiors who flock to see the Real AlCazar, (Royal Palace), at the heart of the city every week.



The exhibition was officially opened and presented to the city by Mr. Abdullah Al Owais, Director General of Dept. of Culture & Information, and Mr. Hisham Al Madhloom, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art, Sharjah.

After giving a tour of the entire exhibition to the representatives of the city authorities and the local and nation press, Mr, Abdullah Al Owais took time to explain to the press the significance of the project which is the culmination of weeks of preparation by the Seville Mosque Foundation, The Authorities of the city of Seville and the Government of Sharjah U.A.E.

This spacious display of some of the worlds finest Calligraphy imparts to the viewer a true sensation of the intricacy and value of this historic art form. Information boards also supply the viewer with interesting and sometimes surprising details about the meaning and formation that lays behind this art.

The exhibition also contains a section dedicated to the historical background of the arab people of the gulf region. Archeological artifacts ranging from ceramics to bronze arrow heads describe the historical process by which this wealthy region became populated.

The exhibition is completed by a further section which paints a vivid picture of the cultural makeup of the people who currently inhabit this area of the arabian peninsula, now recognized as the United Arab Emirates.

Soon after the opening of the exhibition the public started to fill the Exhibition Hall, which remained busy throughout the rest of the inauguration day. Some 2,000 visitors daily are expected at the exhibition and the organizers are satisfied that their goal of sharing this wonderful and very special collection has been achieved.
